Items Discussed:
Dates: Several people mentioned that late July might be a problem for the reunion because some children start school in early August, also the 4th of July weekend might not work due to family reunions. Therefore: two other dates were suggested 10-12 July and 17-19 July. A vote of all was conducted and a verbal agreement of July 10-12, was decided, pending availability of location. (We don't think availability will be a problem as we are planning now and it's 3 years down the road!)
Activities: All agreed to a combined Social/Cocktail hour on July 10, 2003 (Thursday) with the Classes of 71-75 (maybe others). This would only be a social hour with no other activities. It was agreed that a coupon would be presented to each registrant for 2 free drinks with the remaining drinks as a cash bar. The remaining events would be for the class of 1973 only.
Marla asked if we would be having a golf outing. We discussed putting it out to the alumni to see who was interested. It would cost an additional $25-$60 for golf to include the course fees, prizes and other golf related fees. This would be held on July 11th (Friday) around 6:30 am. The remaining alumni would be attending a picnic at a location to be determined (probably metro beach or stony creek). The golfers would join us after golf for this event. No other details were discussed.
The final bash would be held on July 12 to include dinner and music. Other plans will be determined at a later date.
Beth Borysewich said that it seems that a great deal of classes are charging between 65 and 95 per person for the reunion. She had gotten this info from the reunion section of the Classmates site. Beth will forward the password to the rest of the committee so they also can get to the reunion portion of Classmates.
Beth also mentioned an early preregistration fee which will be deducted from the total cost so that we can gather funds for deposits etc. Most in attendance agreed that waiting until late this year would be a better idea.
Fundraising: We briefly discussed fundraising and several items were presented. 1. A cookbook which is already available could be sold, 2. We could solicit recipies from class of 73 alumni and create a new cookbook to be sold, 3, Bill Levins has a few signed photos that he could sell on EBay, 4. Beth could try and sell crochet angels as well.
It was determined that fundraising and solicitations from local vendors would be put off until late next year or early 2002.
Committees: We discussed open committees and determined we just need the planning, finance and location committees which are in place. Nancy Knott said Jeff Brantley has volunteered to help her and Chris Koss on the email search. Meg Fitzgerald also volunteered for this committee.
Cheryl Duquette agreed to be on the finance committee along with Bill Levins and Beth Borysewich. A question was raised about the checking account for the reunion - do we need to set it up as a dba? Beth will try and get her attorney friend in Michigan to answer the question.(Do we have a Michigan attorney here - do you have an answer?)
Location: It was recommended that we check out the Sterling Inn in Sterling Heights for the reunion and hotel rooms. We could try and get a reduced rate on the rooms (30-40 per night) and a reduced rate on the catering if we hold the social hour and final banquet at the Sterling Inn. Domenica Bonanni will contact them on Monday or Tuesday July 21-22 and let us know the results. We also tossed around the idea of downtown (EVERYONE said no) and other locations like the Georgia Inn and the Holiday Inn Express.
Locating Classmates: Beth said she tried to order an alumni book but because she never officially graduated they won't sell her one. She will have her sister order her one. Marla Evangelista has a book and looked up several people to see how current the information was - amazingly it had current info for Domenica and Doug! The address for ordering the alumni book is Bernard C. Harris Publishing Company, 22 Koger Center, Maury Bldg, Norfolk, VA 23502 - 800-877-6554 email at inquiry@bcharricpub.com.
Cheryl Duquette will send her copy of the 20 year reunion memory book to Beth so she can use some of the information to update the web site. A discussion pursued about Pam Lofts - some thought she had died in a car accident others thought cancer. Will try and find the actual cause.
During the discussions, it was bought up as to how to locate the planners of the last reunions. Some people remember Carm Juliano being on the last committee. Doug Knuth disconnected to call Ron Gorney (Carm's husband) to see if we could get any inside information /lists/forms/help, etc. Carm was not in - Doug left a message and hopefully we will hear from Carm in the near future.
There was no other questions/comments and the call ended at 9:15 EST.
FOLLOWUP: Domenica Bonanni called the Sterling Inn and found that they have room enough for 100 to 1200 persons. They do reunions all the time and they have things that can be done at the place. (Like water type rides an indoor pool, etc.) She gave me the planners name and number: Jennifer Demetral at: 810-979-1400 ex574 e-mail address is jennifer@sterling inn.com
I sent Jennifer an email explaining what we wished to do - so far no reply.
Doug Knuth Called and spoke with Carm who sounded very relieved to know that other's want to put on the reunion. She is willing to help, but at some time down the road from her current circumstances. She and Patti Caswell have the record of the alumni, some on disc. She wasn't specific, but some "things" were damaged somewhat by water damage along the way. Doug explained to her that Beth was the instigator of this motley crew! Doug gave her the web site address to give to Patti, as Carm doesn't currently have a computer. She and Patti will relinquish the lists to us, and any suggestions they can give us. She said that it is quite a large amount of physical data, and she was wondering about mailing them to Las Vegas. Doug told Carm that he could scan the info, and send it to me (Beth). Doug will contact me upon his return from vacation. Carm told Doug that there is no other original reunion committee members left other than she, and Patti.
Cheryl Normandeau (Duquette) sent the 20th reunion booklet and I received it in the mail today (Aug 24th) There's quite a few bio's that can give us a lead on where some people are. I will forward what I can to the email commmittee for their follow through.
I would like to know if anyone objects to me putting the bios from the 20th reunion booklet on the reunion website (minus location info). Please let me know your thoughts on this and the above reunion plans so far.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the call and followed up. I am looking for someone to check my work on the RHS73.com site. Seems like I sometimes mispell things and duplicate names. Just need another set of eyes.
Thanks!
